What Is The Recipe Of Shahi Daal?
Can someone plz share the recipe of Shahi Daal? it is made from Maash ke daal... I am waiting for any reply... thanx!

Shahi Daal Recipe 1. Ingredients
2 cup pigeon peas, soaked for 20 - minute; s in cold water 1 1/2 quart water 1 teaspoon turmeric 1 cinnamon stick 1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns 3 bay leaves 6 green cardamoms 6 cloves 1 salt 1/4 cup ghee 1 medium onion, sliced finely 1 1 1/2 piece ginger, chopped 4 garlic cloves 2 fresh green chilies, chopped 1 large tomato, chopped
Directions: How to Cook Shahi Dal
Wash pigeon peas & boil them in the water with the turmeric, cinnamon, peppercorns, bay leaves, cardamom, cloves & salt for 20 minutes till the peas are cooked (may take longer if peas are old). Heat ghee in a skillet, cook onion, garlic, ginger & chilies till the onion is browned. Remove & stir into the cooked pigeon peas. Add tomato, cover & simmer for 8 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Serve with rice.

2nd Method. This soup-like dish combines five different kinds of Daals (lentils) and is therefore also known as Panchratan Daal. Serve it with Naans or plain boiled rice and a salad.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup Toor Daal - split yellow pigeon peas - (see link below for picture)
- 1/4 cup Chana Daal - split Bengal gram - (see link below for picture)
- 1/4 cup Saabut Moong Daal - whole yellow lentil - (see link below for picture)
- 1/4 cup Split Urad Daal - split black lentil - (see link below for picture)
- 1/4 cup Saabut Masoor Daal - whole red lentil - (see link below for picture)
- 3 tbsps vegetable/ canola/ sunflower cooking oil
- 2 large onions chopped fine
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- A pinch of asafetida
- 3 tbsps melted ghee
- 1 tsp Paanch Phoran (see recipe below)
- 2 large tomatoes chopped fine
- 5 tbsps yogurt whisked till smooth
- Chopped fresh coriander to garnish
Preparation:
- Mix all the daals - Toor Daal, Chana Daal, Saabut Moong Daal, Split Urad Daal and Saabut Masoor Daal - together in a bowl and wash thoroughly. Soak the washed daals in water deep enough to cover them completely, for 2 hours. Drain any water that is left and put the daals into a pan with water for boiling. Fill water such that the level is two finger digits above the surface of the daals. Add salt to taste and boil till the daals are cooked - they will become absolutely soft. Add more water as needed. The finished consistency should be like that of thick oatmeal porridge.
- In another pan, heat the oil on medium heat till hot. Add the onions and fry till pale golden in color. Now add the powdered spices and fry for 4-5 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Add the cooked daals to this mixture and stir well. Press down with your stirring spoon to mash the daals roughly.
- In another small pan, heat the ghee on medium heat. When hot, add the Paanch Phoran and fry till spluttering stops. Now add the tomatoes, yogurt and fry for 4-5 minutes. Remove from fire and add to the daal mixture of before. Stir to blend and cook for 2 more minutes.
- Remove from fire, put into serving dish, garnish with chopped coriander and serve.

no mujhe tu aik cup tea bhi banani nahi aata, aur na hi mai egg boil ker sakta hoo, matlab yeh keh mai kitchen ka koi kaam nahi jaanta. meri wife bechari pareshaan hoti hai keh agar woh kisi wajah se chutti ker jaaye tu mai bhooka reh jaaooga ya pet kharab ker looga, kio keh hotel ka khaana mujhe suit nahi kerta, aur mai khood kuch nahi bana sakta.
mai ne dekha keh yaha per bare bare bawarchi khamosh hai tu socha keh copy/paste ker ke hi kisi ki madad ki jaaye.

thanks! thank you all for the reply... By the way, yeh wo wali shaahi daal nahi hai... jo mein ne poochi the... which is available in some restaurants in Pakistan... yeh koi indian dish lag rahi hai...
Shaahi daal which I asked for.. has Maash ke daal, eggs and chicken as ingredients... I can make a somewhat different form... but I needed expert advice from some lady who cooks it...
anyway, thank you for searching the net and sharing this recipe. I appreciate your efforts.

as for as i know shahi dal is made of Masoor ki dal... i eat in lahore resturants ... they probably mix a little amount of urad dal to make it more smooth... Masoor ki dal woh dal hai jo badshah khaya karte the.. aj bhi ager app dals ki price match karen ge to Masoor ki dal mehngi hoti hai... Masoor ki dal ka color is carrot color....
i eat this dal in Paradise resturant lahore.. even seen some tv actors in that resturants.. it use to be located in purani anarkali lahore |
