Actually cause of 60-65% of miscarriages remains a mystery . If there is no obvious reason of Pregnancy loss (trauma, infection etc) of first trimester (first 3months of pregnancy ) its very difficult and near impossible to know the cause of miscarriage.
The most common reason of first trimester pregnancy loss (especially if recurrent loss) is Chromosomal defect that is genetic abnormality (of any type like having extra chromosomes etc) of fetus that is inherited from maternal as well as paternal source.
the second common reason is h ormonal imbalance or low progesterone levels in first three months of pregnancy
Then fever (more than 101 Fahrenheit) or infection can be a cause.
Uterine abnormality or cervical incompetence can be a reason
If recurrent first trimester miscarriages occur then other autoimmune issues can be taken into account.
Rest are trauma or illicit use of drugs.

actually there can be male , female as well as baby and seperately enviornmental and life style factors leading to miscarriage.

Yes If ther is abnormality In DNA/nuclear component of sperms can lead to recurrent first trimester miscarriage.

Also at times male genetic component is taken as foreign thing by female body and mounts an immune response against it that aborts the fetus.

Also some researches believe father age and other habits like cigratte smoking may be a risk factor.
