short cervix history

salam i had my first child in 2010....i ws diagnosed with short cervix during pregnancy...the team of docs at hospital used a pessary to prevent pre-mature birth...tht pessary ws really uncomfortable n painful...i tolerated all the pain for the sake of my baby...they removed it in my last mnth of pregnancy...after tht i had 100% normal labour n birth.....so everythng went well.... Now the question is i am 6 weeks preg at the moment....i want to avoid the short cervix this time...can i help it..???is sex safe regaurding the history..??? doc reply only

Incompetent cervix:

Sorry, I had to change your category to general health, because topics in married women section can't be opened fro some reason.

I think by short cervix you mean incompetent cervix, which is a risk factor for premature labor.

Besides progesterone pessaries, your another option is a surgical procedure called Cervical Cerclage. Basically, this procedure involves placement of stitches on the cervix around the 12-14 th week of pregnancy, minimizing the risk of premature labor, and then these stitches are removed around week 37, allowing for normal vaginal delivery.

thank u for reply doc....u mean i cnt do anything to prevent it...i will hav to through all the process, i went with my first pregnancy...anyways i think i will go with the pessary this time as well...the surgical procedure is a bit scary...thank u so much for reply...
