Islamic Aspects:
Islamic scholars have allowed Gender selection as there is no Direct ayat or hadees Forbidding it But they also say that :
A) its best if not opted for gender discrimination
B)also that There is wisdom in Almighty decision to grant any person with daughters which he might not be able to understand .
Also scholars mostly approve of gender selection in cases like
1)To prevent disease in offsprings that are running in family(genetically) and occur in particular gender(hemophilia in males as female is only a carrier) if its determined pre-conceptionally
2)When a females marriage is threatned due to misconception due to ignorancethat she is the cause of female babies
3)couples who are having test tube babies(due to sub fertility) as its exhaustive and tiresome to have test tube babies and mostly these couples have been rendered with many tests and long procedures.
Plus there is so much reward for raising daughters properly and marrying them in the world here after that if one can broaden his thinking from "legimacy" issue that will remain confined to this world it is endorened with so many mblessing in the end.
Sayings Of Prophet (PBUH):
I) "He who is involved (in the responsibility) of (nurturing) daughters and is generous to them, will have them as a fortification for himself against the Hellfire." (Al-Bukhaari & Muslim)
II) "He who raises two daughters until their puberty will be with me in Paradise like this", and he symbolized the proximity by showing two of his fingers with a slight gap between them." (Muslim)
Medical Aspects:
In many researches in west it has been estimated that lonely fathers miss their family including sons but miss the compassion and love of daughters more .
Couple opting for gender selection are to be counseled:
1) first that are they ready to have another child of the same gender as it is to be emphasized that nothing is 100% and if they get another child of same gender would they be able to fulfill his/her rights.
2)Plus after the birth of Desired gender baby others are not be neglected or given secondary level in affairs
Medical Ways For Gender Selection:
1) There Are Vaginal Douches that you can get by a doctor prescription as they are to be prepared on requirement and only established pharmacy make/prepare them But this guidance you can get from a gynae doctor or fertility clinic that which pharmacy is to be consulted. Bicarbonate douches are used for male babies and citric acid for female baby. Basically its nothing difficult to prepare but the whole point is accurate ratio and if not done properly can be dangerous so get it prescribed and take via pharmacy and its not that costly.
2) Natural method is what known as Shettle's method . The biggest draw back of this method is coitus time period is limited that itself reduce the fertility of couple.
Basic principle of Shettle's method is that
As we know there are X and Y sperms in male and gender determination depend on male partner(that Y Sperm meet egg to form male baby) so it says that Ysperm are more fast moving but are fragile so are killed easily and earlier. So the more nearer the coitus is to the ovulation time of female more easily the faster sperms(Ysperm) will reach the egg first and fertilize it and produce male baby.So that slower sperms(Xsperm) will reach egg later and egg would have been fertilized by Y sperm already and acquired its thickening so that no more sperms will penetrate it
Also its essential that there should be coitus within 12hour to 18hour of ovulation and not earlier than this period else Ysperm will be dead and Xsperm will survive to fertilize the egg. So couple is asked not to do coitus randomly between 10th to 18th day of cycle but only during 12-18hours duration of ovulation.
Ovulation can be monitored via ultrasonography , increase in cervical mucus of female, increased body temperature of female and also there are ovulation kits to note LH hormone levels.
One thing more there are also other points in Shettles method but they have been objected scientifically on having no sound basis.Like female to have orgasm for male baby in that particular coitus etc.

3) There is no point opting test tube babies if one is fertile naturally . Only those couple who are subfertile and cannot have babies naturally may opt test tube babies and then have gender selection if they want. Most of the couple undergoing test tube babies only want "to have a baby" and are not that choosy like the ones having Almighty Blessing but disproving it.Plus test tube baby is a costly tiresome method.
