Life Style Modifications Required During Pregnancy: Introduction:
Mild to moderate amount of activity is health and should be done. It's a wrong concept to remain on rest throughout the tenure of pregnancy
Few modification that may be done are:
1) donot over exert yourself like lifting heavy things
2) use flat shoes in daily routine
3) take a good night sleep and a nap at noon
4) always lie at one side and not flat on back
5) unnecessary traveling especially out of city or town must be avoided
6) never take any medication without doctor's advice
7) share any depressive thought or anxiety or fear with close one's to avoid exaggeration as during pregnancy hormones might be effecting the psyche.
Morning sickness and vomiting:
Morning sickness though referred to as morning but may occur through out the day and may keep you from taking in essential nutrients that are required and also can make you dehydrated.
1)Eat soft bread even before coming out of bed or piece of simple cake or popcorns
2)try something cold like ice cream or chilled beverages
3) eat frequent short meals with soups in between. Avoid large platters
4)Avoid oily and excess spicy food. Even cooking such foods may cause nausea in some women .While cooking, open windows or use the exhaust fan to get rid of odors.
5)drink plenty of water,juices or O.R.S in case of excess vomiting
Contact a health professional and take prescribed medicine
6) take a small morning fresh air walk
Morning sickness beyond 4th month of pregnancy must be evaluated.
Heart Burn During Pregnancy:
Eat small frequent meals instead of 3 big meals a day. Small amount of food require less acid secretion for digestion.
Carbohydrate rich foods like potatoes and rice are good as they bind excess stomach acid
Avoid high-fat meals. High fat foods will remain in the stomach longer in which more acid is secreted to digest them.
Maintain upright position during and at least 45 mins after eating
Try elevating the head of bed few inches when lying down.
Avoid tea and coffee and cold drinks as they stimulate acid production
Eat yogurt at night. It coats the lining of stomach and prevents irritation.
