In order to know about the Luft's disease we have to understand few more things: well it is difficult to explain in lay terms.
Metabolism: Our body works and grows on the basis of some chemical reaction in the body. These reactions come in Metabolism. These reactions are either to build some thing as stored energy or destroy the stores of solid energy to liquefy it so that body can use it for work and movement etc.
Muscles: These are specialized structures in our body and move the skeleton. The whole body is covered with muscles. They are specifically present in arms and legs.
Thyroid: This gland situated in the neck and its function is to make the appropriate pace of metabolism of the body. If it is hyper functioning, then the basal body metabolism increases and it would in turn produces adverse impacts on the body.
Mitochondria: These are special structures present in the cell. It contains the material used in metabolism.
Luft's Disease: In simple words this disease happens due to the faults in mitochondria. There would be increased metabolism in the cell and loss of body stores of the energy along with the muscle loss as well. This is the second cause of hyper- metabolism, First cause would be due to hyper- thyroidism (When thyroid gland functioning is more).
Signs and Symptoms:
Fever, heat intolerance, profuse sweating, more eating, more thirst, ragged-red fibers, and resting tachycardia (Increased heart rate. Exercise intolerance with mild weakness.
Treatment: Mainly symptomatic. means to remove the symptoms. There is no perticular medicine. Only genetic engineering can solve the problem. Still work is going on in the world for the cure of this disease
