Benefits On Health Due To Fasting Part- I

Benefits On Health Due To Fasting

Part- I

Doctor K K

Fasting is the religious way of preaching in different cultures especially in Islam, Christians and Jews, however; Muslims are those who perform this act of fasting with extreme enthusiasm and spirit. In this article we would take a look over the different benefits that a human being can obtain on account of fasting, especially the benefits that he obtains on his health. As Allah's Apostle Muhammad peace be upon Him has said, "Fast to be healthy".

Body's Adjustment during Fasting:

A human body adjusts itself while fasting. For Muslims, the duration of fasting comprised of 12-14 hours with out taking meals, water etc. However; they would continue to perform the same level of activity in the absence of the provision of appropriate calories. Naturally a human and any others' animal body preserve energy inside the body in the form of stores so that the calories can be obtained in the state of starvation. Our muscles for instance are the stored form of proteins. Similarly we do have fats as well that also remain deposited in our body and during extreme needs; these fatty tissues are utilized in the form of energy. Carbohydrates which are the important source of energy also stores in the body in various forms along with proteins and fats.

Difference between Fasting and Starvation:

Technically, fasting is the state when there is the depletion of stores of carbohydrates and fats from the body and these stores are burnt to generate required amount of energy up till the time the person breaks the fast. However; if the period of fasting goes beyond the time when the protein also starts to be depleted at the end of the stores of carbohydrates and fats, then it is called as Starvation. Allah has assigned the humans to fast not more than then 12-14 hours, since He does not want form them to do starvation and get muscle wasting, He just want to deliver the practical massage of hunger, thirst and keeping away from sins. He is actually trains the people and in the reward of that along with virtues and merits he gives a lot of benefits to the health.

Benefits of Fasting On Health;

Burning and Utilization of Fats:

Human body not only obtains fats from out side source like in the meals but also, the fats are formed inside the body when carbohydrates the first source of energy are not used up enormously for calorie requirement either due to over eating etc. The excess amount of carbohydrates converts into Fats and stored inside the body. The major benefit of fasting on the human body is that, since the carbohydrate is not being available for generating the energy, the fats are mobilized and converted into other substances by the liver with the generation of energy. Along with this energy these Fats produce Ketone bodies, acetoacetic acid and Beta-hydroxybutyric acid. According to an estimate, one pound of fats gives 3500 Kilo Calories (Kcal). A healthy normal adult needs approximately 3000-4000 Kcal per day. Hence it could be estimated that one pound of Fats would be enough for him as a daily requirement. In the absence of eating, drinking, can you guess how much fats would be burned to generate energy with in 12-14 hours of fasting? Approximately half to 3/4th of a pound in a one day fasting, isn't?

As a whole it could be estimated that, during Ramadan Fasting, with in 30 days, a man can lose his fats stores up to 15 to 25 pounds that comprised up to 8-12 Kilograms. However; we see that a man does not lose weight up to such an extend during fasting. The reason could be that his proteins and carbohydrates stores get enhances at the cost of Fatty stores. Simply to say that Ramadan fasting is the best way to convert Fats into proteins and carbohydrates.

Bad Impacts of Fats on Human body:

Peoples are now well aware about the bad impacts of fats and cholesterol on the human body. There are a lot of diseases that could happen due to fatty deposits and deposits of cholesterol on the blood vessels. Few of the well known conditions are as follows:

1.       High Blood Pressure

2.       Acute Coronary Syndrome, Heart attack, Angina

3.       Cerebro-vescular accident, stroke

4.       Metabolic Syndrome

5.       Insulin Resistance leading to Diabetes Mellitus

6.       Impotence, Erectile dysfunction

7.       Obesity, Inactivity leading to life threatening illnesses

8.       Renal artery obstruction, Chronic Renal Failure

9.       Different body cancers (as per clinical trials there is a strong link between obesity and incidence of cancer)

10.   Gastrointestinal diseases, gall bladder stones etc

Conclusion:

It is therefore proposed that Ramadan fasting since decreases the body fats, helps to prevent all the relevant diseases associated with excessive body fats. The diseases mentioned in the above list are few, there are certain more diseases that could happen due to fats deposits. Hence fasting is no doubt beneficial in order to provide good health status to a person who performs it regularly.

Re: Benefits On Health Due To Fasting Part- I

Waterr:

I am much comfortable in writing English. I think you would also be. Many people prefer roman Urdu. You may write in it as well, However; I suggest you to write in English. Since we should not target only those people who are in Pakistan India and Bangladesh. Muslims are every where in the world and this web site is being seen every where. Therefore; who would write for them if we use Roman Urdu?
There should be certain people in this web site who always write in English so that they can understand and participite fully.

Mera Sawal: Your suggestion is taken on the head. I would also include them.

Myrizvi. Very impressive reply
