What Are The Basis Of Results Through DNA Test?

Hi all I know that due to DNA Test we can know the reality of persons in different ways like (Parents , Own entitiy and other things) 
But what is that.How it takes.and the what are the basis of results through DNA.????
I need detail information about DNA Test .

DNA is specific for a person as the finger prints. also it determines the genetic make-up and heredity characteristics. so, it is performed to know about the paternity, for some other purposes also. its very difficult to explain the basis of this test as it involves sound medical concepts regarding composition etc of DNA. the test is done by taking cheek-scrapings or through a mouth wash/ chewing gum.
