Anal Sex: According To Islam

The Messenger of Allah (saw - may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "There is no shyness in matters of religion."

At the time of the Prophet Muhammad (saw), the Sahaabah (companions of the Prophet - may Allah be pleased with them all) were not too shy to ask about all affairs, including sexual matters, so as to know the teachings of Islam in these matters. As Aisha (r.a - may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (saw) testified, "Blessed are the women of the Ansar. Shyness did not stand in their way of seeking knowledge about their religion." (Bukhari and Muslim).

The Prophet  (saw) said: do not enter your wife through (her) anus (Ahmed, Tirmidhi, ibn Maajah)

The Prophet (saw) said: Allah curses those who approach men (homosexuality) or women for anal intercourse (Tirmidhi, Nasaee, ibn Hibban)

"The one who has intercourse with a menstruating woman, or with a woman in her rectum, or who goes to a fortune-teller, has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad." (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, no. 1/243; see also Saheeh al-Jaami', 5918).

"The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: "Allah will not look at a man who has anal sex with his wife." (Reported by Ibn Abi Shaybah, 3/529, and At-Tirmidhi)

The four schools of Islamic jurisprudence and other Muslim jurists have unanimously agreed that anal sex is haram or unlawful. The wife should abstain from responding to her husband's demand to have anal sex, and she will not be considered disobedient in that case. Still, she has the right to seek divorce as long as he insists on having anal sex, or harm her on account of her refusal. However, the marriage is still considered valid, and this act is no more than a forbidden practice done in the framework of a valid contract."

Dangers of Anal Sex

Anal sex can be risky. There can be tearing of the tissue inside the anus, which is not as well protected as the skin outside the anus. Our external tissue is "kerotinized," meaning that it has layers of dead cells that create a thickened protective barrier. The tissue inside the anus does not have this feature. Anal tissue can tear quite easily, creating openings where bacteria and viruses can enter and cause disease problems, such as anal cancer or HIV/AIDs transmission.

For this reason, anal sex is the riskiest form of sexual activity when it comes to the transmission of HIV/AIDS. Tiny tears in the anal tissue are like giant superhighways for the HIV viruses, allowing them to get inside the body and enter the blood system. Anal tears provide an opening for all the other STDs as well. It may be possible for repetitive anal sex to lead to weakening of the anal sphincter, which is the muscle that tightens after we defecate. Once weakened, feces can escape the anus against our will.
