Prostate Gland Problems: What Are The Reasons And Treatment? Prostate gland is
linked with male reproductive system and hence only found in males. It is
absent in females and therefore this problem only happens in males. The most
common problem of prostate gland is the enlargement of prostate gland at
extreme age. This is physiological and not considered pathological. The
increase of prostate size is due to Testosterone. After the age of 70 years,
more than 50% of males would get enlargement of prostate. Usually the problem
is managed conservatively with certain medications but since due to
enlargement, if urine out flow is blocked and the passage of urine would be
difficult then operation is required, provided that the general status of the
patient would be fine enough for the surgery. The other way round is that for
the passage of urine, a urine catheter could be placed either in the urine tube
(Silicon catheter, Foley’s Catheter) or in the tummy (Supra-pubic
Catherization) so that the urine would not remain collected in the bladder. In
severe blockage, the backpressure of urine would damages the kidneys therefore;
this is necessary to tackle the situation whenever it becomes mandatory.
The other prostate
problem that could happen in middle as well as in old age is the cancer of
prostate gland. The mortality rate of Prostate cancer is on second number
worldwide after Cancer of lungs in males. Again, the culprit over here is the
hormone Testosterone that brings about changes at chromosomal levels and hence
produces cancer of Prostate gland. Research reveals that by doing regular
intercourse, the chances of Prostate cancer would be minimized. Some authorities
also claim that masturbation or hand practice also decreases the chances of
prostate cancer. Like other cancers, there is no cure of Prostate cancer in
advanced stage, however; if it not reached to the distant sites of the body
like bones and liver, then after operation, radiotherapy + chemotherapy
could be beneficial.
The next problem that
may happen in young males as well is the inflammation of Prostate gland, which
is called as Prostitis. This might happen due to various causes including bacterial
infections. A person may feel burning micturation, urine incontinence and pain
below the bladder. This is treatable disease and a Urologist after examination
would treat the cause of the problem. A person becomes absolutely normal after
the treatment.
